What struck the rescuer most was Hank’s complete lack of response, sitting still as if he were a living statue, his eyes reflecting a deep sadness and a broken heart.
Realizing the gravity of Hank’s condition, the rescuer wisely chose not to disturb him and instead contacted a local animal shelter for professional help.
The Recovery Begins
Rescue staff from the shelter, including Rosa Fond of Humans and Animals United, quickly arrived to assist Hank.
Despite fears that Hank might be hostile due to his abandonment, he greeted his rescuers with nothing but affection and gratitude.

Cause of Hank’s Immobility
A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the reason behind Hank’s lack of movement: a broken leg, likely sustained before he was abandoned and estimated to be at least two weeks old.
With no other signs of abuse, the cause of his injury remained unclear.
Immediate plans for surgery were made, although they had to be delayed until Hank could regain his strength due to malnourishment.
