Staffy Behaviour
What Are Staffies Like?
Staffordshire Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers are fun, loving, and highly energetic dogs. They’re very much indoor dogs who don’t like to be left alone for long periods of time, and they’re extremely loyal to their human owners.
Staffy Behaviour Traits
The main behaviour traits of Staffies and AmStaffs include:
- High energy
- Cuddly
- Loving and affectionate
Because Staffies become very attached to their owners, they will follow you around wherever you go, and they’ll probably try to sit on you, too.
Licking can be a sign of affection and another common Staffy/Amstaff behaviour trait.
Common Staffy Behaviour Problems
Every dog comes with its own set of behaviour problems, whether that’s unique to them or common to their breed. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are no different.
Staffies need a lot of exercise and attention, and if these needs are not met, they can resort to digging. This can leave your garden in a less than the desired state if it gets out of hand.
Chewing can also be an issue with Staffies, but it’s also normal behaviour. Luckily, if your Staffy starts chewing things they shouldn’t, you can train them to chew things that they should.
Most behaviour problems with Staffies/Amstaffs can be eliminated and controlled easily, as long as you train your Staffy puppy from a very young age.
Staffy Temperament
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has earned a reputation of being a great family dog; they’re amazing with children and want nothing more than to love their human family.
When it comes to other dogs, Staffies would rather avoid them, giving them a wide berth, than start any kind of trouble. Saying that, if confronted, they won’t back down.
Staffies, overall, are extremely loving and affectionate, with lots of energy.
