Staffy X Bullmastiff: Staffy Bull Bullmastiff Cross Breed Guide

The Staffy Bull Bullmastiff is a crossbreed that can scare and intimidate a lot of people due to its powerful appearance. However, when properly trained, this dog is extremely affectionate, gentle, and makes the perfect family dog.

What Is a Staffy X Bullmastiff?

This designer crossbreed brings together the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the Bullmastiff. These dogs can look big and scary, but they’re cuddly and loving with a calm nature.

Staffies were originally bred to be fighting dogs, and Bullmastiffs were bred to be gamekeepers and keep poachers away. But both breeds have long since moved away from these and have become great breeds for families.

Staffy Bullmastiff Characteristics

This hybrid dog is usually a medium to large dog breed once they are fully grown and the mix of the Staffy and Bullmastiff creates an attractive crossbreed that is powerful with a strong stance.

One thing to note with the Staffy Bull Bullmastiff is that their weight can vary considerably, the smaller end being only 34lbs and the higher end reaching 130lbs.

This crossbreed has straight, medium-length hair and even though they shed throughout the year, it’s not excessive; a weekly brush is enough.

Something every owner should know about the Staffy Bullmastiff mix is that they can suffer from serious health conditions such as progressive retinal atrophy, so be sure to get adequate pet insurance for your puppy.

Staffy Bullmastiff Temperament

Both Staffies and Bullmastiffs are muscular, strong dogs, that need training very early on. They’re also known to be aggressive and can display destructive behaviour, therefore firm training is even more vital with this hybrid.

Being firm but kind when teaching this crossbreed is the best way to go and when they display good behaviour, give them a reward.

On the other hand, even though this crossbreed is large and powerful, don’t be fooled by their appearance; they’re very gentle, affectionate and loyal. They make amazing family dogs, perfect for those with children.

The Staffy X Bullmastiff consider themselves to be the guardian of their household, displaying protective and kind behaviour towards their human owners.

That being said, if not trained adequately from a very young age, they can still be aggressive towards other animals and unknown humans, which is why training this crossbreed is so important.

You have to spend focused time with your new puppy to make sure their loving and affectionate side takes the forefront. So, if this sounds like too much work, this crossbreed isn’t for you.

The Staffy is an intelligent, eager to please breed, which helps balance out the lesser intelligent, independent, and stubborn personality of a Bullmastiff.

Exercise

When it comes to exercise and energy levels, the Staffy Bull Bullmastiff falls in the moderate category. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is quite an active dog, whereas the Bullmastiff is a little tamer, putting the crossbreed somewhere in the middle.

As long as there is enough space, this crossbreed will be a happy dog in an apartment. But it’s still important to take them out for at least 30 minutes a day.

Also, the Staffy Bullmastiff also prefers colder weather as they don’t do too well in the heat, so bear this in mind when taking your dog out in the summer months.

Overall, Staffy Bull Bullmastiffs are incredibly gentle and affectionate, as long as they are trained properly from a puppy. You will have the perfect family dog if you decide to own this loving breed.
